2017 105th Grey Cup - Stampeders vs. Argonauts Betting Preview

The Calgary Stampeders look incredibly strong heading into this year's Grey Cup and they might even be good enough to take this game both straight up and against the spread. After absolutely dominating the league during the regular season, the Stampeders proved themselves once again during the Western Finals, taking down the Edmonton Eskimos by four. They got behind early against Edmonton, failing to answer 14 points made by their opponents in the first quarter, but came back strong with a 22 point second quarter that put both momentum and the lead on their side. What's especially important for the Stampeders is that they won that game with more than just the work of Bo Levi Mitchell. They got a lot of production out of their ground game, with Roy Finch and Jerome Massam combining for more than rushing yards and two touchdowns. That will serve them incredible well in their fight against a Toronto squad that's excelled at guarding against the ground attack this year. Also working in favour of the Stampeders will be their record against Toronto. Calgary has won nine out of their last ten starts against the Argonauts and the last time they met, Calgary walked away with a 16 point victory.

We'd like to say that the Argonauts will be able to count on a lot of momentum as they come into this game, given that they've won their last three starts in a row, but since they nearly gave up their lead to a last quarter surge from the Roughriders in their most recent start, that momentum has to be waning. What the Argonauts can almost certainly count on, however, is the work of Ricky Ray. The veteran quarterback has been an absolute force in the latter part of the season and in his last six games, he's been kept to fewer than 300 passing yards only once. And one of those game was so spectacular that it eclipses any miscues. Three weeks ago against the Bluebombers he cleared 420 yards to help them lock up the win. Also helping the Argonauts cause in this game is something we mentioned with the Stampeders part of the preview and that's the Argo's ground defence. It's going to be tough to contain the Stampeders, but they have at least a chance of doing so on the ground. So far this year they've kept their opponents to an average of just 83.79 rushing yards per game and that's probably good enough to keep Calgary's ground forces from lighting up the scoreboard too prolifically. In terms of their historical record, they've done pretty well at home and even though they aren't technically at home, they're close enough for the purposes of this game. They've won five out of their last six home games.
