This day has been circled on many people's calendars since the finality of last year’s playoffs when the Golden State Warriors won their second title in three years over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

On Christmas Day LeBron James and the Cavaliers will take on the Golden State Warriors in the first of two meetings this season. Both teams are playing extremely well right now as the 23-8 Cavaliers have won five straight games after having a recent 13 game winning streak snapped last week. Golden State are 24-6 and have pulled off 9 straight victories despite the loss of All Star point guard Steph Curry. The former League MVP may very well be ready to suit back up again for his team ahead of the big game on Christmas Day, although the team is worried about the stability of Stephs’ ankles, as this is not the first time the 29 year olds has battled ankle injury.

After a tumultuous start to the season for Cleveland, LeBron James has continued to show why even at the advanced age of 32 years old, the NBA best player still has the uncanny ability to take control of a game and literally put the rest of the team on his back on route to continue to team success. James sits third in League scoring at unimpressive 28.1 points per game, 9.3 assists per game and 8.5 rebounds all while averaging a very impressive 57% shooting from the field. What's more impressive is the fact that James is still such an imposing force on both sides of the court despite the fact that all star point guard Isaiah Thomas has still yet to suit up for his new team after being swapped for maligned Superstar point guard Kyrie Irving in the offseason.

Golden State are still the most star studded team in the association and that isn't even close. Yes the loss of Stephan Curry and his 26.3 points per game is missed, the 26.1 points average Buy fellow Superstar Kevin Durant make it very easy to help insulate the loss of one of the most dynamic Shooters in the history. Couple that with the fact that Klay Thompson is averaging nearly 21 points per game on nearly 50% shooting from the field, and you still have one of the scariest offenses in the history of the NBA.

Monday will mark the first of two meetings between these two championship laden teams and will be followed up by the encore performance in Cleveland not even three weeks later. This game should act as a good barometer for both teams as they are both expected to represent their respective conferences in this year’s NBA Finals.

On Friday night the Toronto Raptors will head into music city USA in search of their fifth consecutive win when they face the Grizzlies.

Toronto (15-7) have been playing well as of late and the biggest factor, is the return to form of point guard Kyle Lowry. The diminutive point guard out of Villanova is starting to come around and show more offensive flare, none more so than his outing against Phoenix last game when he nailed five 3-pointers and finished with 20 points in the win.

Lowry is now averaging 16.6 points and a team best 7.1 assists per game and is now second in team scoring behind All-Star swingman DeMar DeRozan who is averaging 23.3 points per game. The team has continued to show a strong commitment to team ball and an even deeper focus on distributing the basketball. The result has been plentiful as the 111.5 points per game the team is scoring which is tops in the Eastern Conference and third in the entire league.

The Memphis Grizzlies (8-16) are in a bit of a rough patch and have lost 9 of it’s last 10 games so they’re not exactly playing up to their potential. The team is still in disarray from relieving head coach David Fizdale from his coaching duties and the whole Marc Gasol fiasco. Gasol is healthy again, and seemingly happy in his situation with his coach being gone as it was obvious the star player was struggling on the court. Gasol continues to lead the team in virtually every statistical category. Points (18.9), rebounds (8.8), assists (4.2), free throw percentage (8.39%) and blocks are all held by Gasol. The matchup between Gasol and Jonas Valanciunas/Serge Ibaka for Toronto will be critical ahead of Friday’s tilt.

This is the first of two meetings between these teams heading in opposite directions. Look for the Raptors to try and spell some of their third quarter demons in this contest, especially after halftime. Over the last three weeks, Toronto has struggled mightily holding a lead in third quarters and head coach Dwane Casey has been having fits trying to get his team to play a full 48 minutes.

These teams split the season series last year at a game apiece, Toronto winning in a blowout 120-105, only to drop a nail biter 101-99 in Tennessee.
