Why are the Bills the Favourites?

Entering into the 2022-23 NFL season the Buffalo Bills opened as the odds-on favourites to win this years Super Bowl. The Bills have an incredibly talented squad that is ready and able to leave their mark on the history books by claiming the franchises first Lombardi Trophy.

Possessing a high-octane offence, the Bills have been torching opposing defences on a weekly basis. Much of this offensive success is in thanks to MVP candidate Josh Allen and his star wide receiver, Stefon Diggs. In the 33 games the dynamic duo has shared the field prior to the 2022 season they’ve connected for a whopping 230 receptions for 2760 yards and 18 touchdowns through the air.

Allen and Diggs have continued their dominant play into this season and continue running up the score against any defence that faces them.

While their high scoring offence has been a big reason for their recent surge in wins, the Bills defensive unit is equally as important to their team success. With gifted talents at all levels of their defence, the Bills are a stonewall for offences to try and fight through. Last season the Bills had the number-one ranked team defence, allowing a league-low in total yards against, passing touchdowns, and third-down-conversion percentage.

With both sides of the ball looking equally dangerous in Buffalo, it’s no wonder why oddsmakers have booked them as the favourites to win this years Super Bowl. Coming off of an all-time classic but heartbreaking loss, to the Kansas City Chiefs last postseason, the Bills will be coming into this season with a vengeance the may just culminate in a Super Bowl victory.

Team to Fade: Denver Broncos

After acquiring nine-time Pro Bowler and former-Super Bowl winning quarterback Russell Wilson this offseason fans and analysts alike began to build up the hype train around the Denver Broncos. But here at CSB we’re here to derail it before it even gets rolling.

While Wilson is a top-talent in the NFL and has proven he has what it takes to take a team to the Super Bowl, there are several other factors at play that have us questioning the Broncos chances.

For starters, the Broncos play in arguably the best division in football, the AFC West. Having to face Super Bowl contenders in the Kansas City Chiefs, as well as the young and exciting Las Vegas Raiders and Los Angeles Chargers, the Broncos may not even be the best team in their own division let alone the NFL.

There’s also still multiple question marks surrounding the talent featured on the Broncos roster. With a subpar offensive-line its going to be up to Wilson to pull a rabbit out of the hat almost every down to make a play while in the pocket.

The receiving core for the Broncos is suspect to say the least with projected WR1 Jerry Jeudy coming off of a torn ACL, we won’t know how much of an impact he will have this season until we can see him stay healthy over the course of a season.

On top of a mediocre defensive unit outside of a few standout players such as Randy Gregory, Patrick Surtain II, and Justin Simmons, the current Broncos roster has too many liabilities on their young and unproven roster to be considered Super Bowl contenders.

Under the Radar Pick: New Orleans Saints

After a rocky 2021-22 season, the New Orleans Saints may not be on everyones radar yet, but could be ready to make an immediate impact on the Super Bowl odds landscape early this season.

Narrowly missing out on the playoffs last season, the Saints fought their way to a lacklustre 9-8 record last year. After losing starting quarterback Jameis Winston to injury early into the season while still missing star-wideout Michael Thomas, the Saints played through adversity week-in and week-out.

With the return of Winston as well as Thomas formulating a timetable for his long awaited return, the offensive unit will no longer rest on the shoulders of Pro-Bowl running back, Alvin Kamara and will become a more lucrative and dangerous unit from top to bottom.

Last season could have been a wrap early on due to the Saints constant offensive woes, but their defence once again proved they are the real deal. Possessing the fourth-ranked defence in the 2021-22 season, the Saints terrorized opposing offences while picking up the slack for their porous offence.

This offseason the Saints decided to move on from longtime Head Coach Sean Payton and promoted Defensive Coordinator Dennis Allen to take the reigns of their club. Allen has been a part of the Saints organization for a total of 12 seasons and has a great familiarity with both the team and its culture.

Allen is largely to credit for the Saints aforementioned defensive success over the past few seasons and will likely continue to build on this now with full control of his team.

With the right head coach, a healthy roster, and everyones focus on winning, at (+3500) the New Orleans Saints could be a steal for sports bettors looking to find the best value pick for Super Bowl LVII odds.
