Currently the Winnipeg Blue Bombers sit atop both the CFL league standings and oddsmakers table, followed closely by division rivals the BC Lions and Calgary Stampeders. With all three of the top ranked teams playing within the same division, the race to the Grey Cup final could be a bloodbath in the West Division.

Falling behind the West juggernauts are the Toronto Argonauts and the Saskatchewan Roughriders, both poised to enter the 2022 Grey Cup Playoffs with genuine title aspirations despite their mediocre records.

Now that the stage is set, let’s take a deep dive into the title favourites as well as a value pick that could provide you with great value into the future.

Why are the Blue Bombers the Favourite?

The winner of the last two Grey Cup Championships, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers have looked nearly unstoppable this season, sporting an impressive 12-2 record. The Bombers have demonstrated they are a force to be reckon with in the CFL, with an explosive offence as well as a boasting strong defensive core. The Blue Bombers are also the first team to officially punch their ticket to the playoffs clinching a spot on the road to the Grey Cup.

Winnipeg kicked off their season to a rocky start with two close finishes to the weak Ottawa Redblacks, but quickly picked up the pace and have begun to roll into championship form. With an unblemished record the Blue Bombers biggest win undoubtably came in Week 5 where they gobsmacked a fierce BC Lions squad to the tune of a 43-22 victory on the road.

With championship experience and a winning culture, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers are easily the favourites to claim the 2022 Grey Cup, earning themselves their third consecutive win at the biggest stage.

Value Pick: Toronto Argonauts

Not only do the Toronto Argonauts have a talented roster but more importantly, could see themselves having a unique path to the Grey Cup Final.

With the East Division being incredibly weak this season, the Toronto Argonauts have positioned themselves nicely moving forward into the playoffs. If the Argos are able to hold on to the top spot in the East, they would be granted a first-round bye in the playoffs, allowing them to rest, regroup, and take on the winner of the two-versus-three seed matchup (whether it is a crossover game or not).

With this advantage the Argos would only need to defeat the fourth-place team from the West Division, or take down the second best team from their own division, something they have had success with so far this season. The Argos would also be guaranteed home advantage for this game which in the CFL playoffs can be crucial.

While they would still need to hike up their socks and bring their best to win in the Grey Cup Final, the Toronto Argonauts have a legitimate chance of not only making the final, but possible bring home the clubs 18th Grey Cup, their first since 2017. With close finishes against the favoured Winnipeg Blue Bombers, at (+400), the Toronto Argonauts could prove to have great value for all CFL bettors.
