Why are the Celtics the Favourites?

After failing to capture the NBA title from the Golden State Warriors in the 2022 NBA Finals, the Boston Celtics are coming into this season locked and loaded. The Celtics are ready to exercise their demons, and get their vengeance on the NBA as their stacked squad awaits opening night tipoff.

A large part in the Celtics odds becoming so high to claim this years NBA championship comes from their offseason acquisition of Malcolm Brogdon. The 30-year-old Brogdon had spent the past three seasons as a member of the Indiana Pacers, where he averaged 18.9 points per game (PPG), along with 6.3 assists per game (APG) and 5.1 rebounds per game (RPG), all while still shooting with high efficiency.

Brogdon has been a borderline All-Star over the past few seasons but has missed a good chunk of time due to injury. If he’s able to stay healthy Brogdon is the perfect fit for the Boston Celtics both talent-wise as well as for their competitive timeline.

The Celtics desperately needed a reliable playmaker throughout the 2021-22 NBA season, and while 2022 Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Smart filled the role admirably, Brogdon will be able to fit the role naturally and produce greater results.

While Brogdons addition surely helps boost the status of the Celtics, the seasons success will still largely fall on the star duo of Jayson Tatum & Jaylen Brown. Both Tatum and Brown showcased their skillset last season, both having remarkable moments in the Playoffs, willing the Celtics to the NBA Finals. Both players are only just getting started, being under the age of 26, the future is incredibly bright for the Celtics with this pairing.

The Celtics aren’t just built on star power however, with a deep rotation Head Coach Ime Udoka is able to game plan and adjust to nearly any possibility the C’s may face. With veteran players such as Al Horford and Derrick White, as well as breakout interior defender Robert Williams III, all able to provide valuable minutes, there’s no question the Boston Celtics are going to be the team to beat this season.

Are the Raptors Legitimate Title Contenders?

Coming off of a lacklustre finish to their season last year falling to the Philadelphia 76ers in a Game 6 blowout on their home-court, the Toronto Raptors are set to have a bounce back year and continue to fight their way back into contender status.

The 2022-23 seasons success for the Raptors will likely rest in the hands of 2022 Rookie of the Year Scottie Barnes. Barnes was an immediate impact player for the Raptors and has shown flashes of greatness already in his young NBA career. Already establishing himself as one of the top overall defenders in the NBA, talk from around the Association is he is only getting better with time.

Alongside Barnes on the up-and-coming Raptors squad are longstanding members of the team and 2019 NBA Champions, Pascal Siakam & Fred VanVleet. With VanVleet being names to the 2022 All-Star team last season, as well as Siakam making the All-NBA-Third Team, the homegrown dynamic duo plus Scottie Barnes could prove to be a three-headed monster within the East.

The current Raptors roster is built out perfectly for Nick Nurses fast-paced, defence first system. This combined with President of Basketball Operations, Masai Ujiri’s fixation on collecting versatile 6′7-6′9 forwards to fill out their roster, the Raptors.

One downside of this Raptors roster currnetly lays with their centre depth. With Pascal Siakam largely filling this void last season, the undersized Raps have been beat up down low and killed on the glass by opposing teams without a dominant interior presence. After selecting rookie Christian Koloko in the 2022 NBA Draft, the Raptors hope to build on the youngsters skillset in hopes he can fill the void for this season.

Don’t expect Koloko to be a game-changer just yet, and without reliable backups its going to be another year of struggling to win the battle on the glass for the Raptors.

Still, with solid depth on this years roster, the Raptors will be a tough matchup for any team the face and should be looked at as a dark horse candidate to compete for this years NBA Championship.

With their current odds sitting at (+4500) there’s a ton of value with this futures wager and could result in a huge payday for bettors if the Kings of the North can band together and make another deep run in the NBA Playoffs.

Under the Radar Pick: Memphis Grizzlies

After giving the defending NBA Champion Golden State Warriors arguably their toughest matchup within the postseason, the Memphis Grizzlies are a team you should seriously keep an eye on as a title contender this season.

Following a breakout year from superstar Ja Morant, the Memphis Grizzlies shocked the NBA world as they secured the second-best regular season record in the NBA last season. The young guns on the Grizzlies have provided some insane highlights ranging from buzzer beaters, posterizing dunks, and ankle breakers, not only are they must-see basketball, but they are undoubtably a team ready to make a deep run in the NBA playoffs.

While their youth and inexperience was on display at times throughout last years postseason, with some much needed experience now under their belts, the young core of this Grizzlies squad is set to explode and continue their dominance within the Western Conference.

With oddsmakers currently listing the Grizzlies at (+2200) this could be an absolute steal for all NBA futures bettors. With small risk and a huge potential payout, the Grizzlies are a fantastic option to keep in mind when placing a wager on 2023 NBA Championship odds.

The Grizz are only getting better with time as stars in the making such as Desmond Bane, Jaren Jackson Jr, and Dillon Brooks continue to elevate their games and push Memphis into legitimacy. With the only place to go from here being up, look for the Memphis Grizzlies to once again set themselves up for a strong season.
