Next Raptors Head Coach Odds: Will the Raptors Make an Outside Hire?

Get the Latest Odds & Analysis on Who Will Become the Next Raptors Head Coach.

Toronto Raptors Next Head Coach Odds

After a brutal ending to their 2022-23 season, the Toronto Raptors made the difficult decision to part ways with Head Coach Nick Nurse. Nurse had found plenty of team success with the Raptors in his tenure, sporting a stellar 230-165 overall record, winning the 2020 NBA Coach of the Year, as well as leading at the helm during the 2019 NBA Championship victory.

While there were plenty of bright spots in Nurse’s time with the Raptors, there was still much to be desired when it came to the final results of his Raptors squads. After blowing a double-digit lead in their play-in match against the Chicago Bulls, enough was enough and Nurse was sent packing.

Now with the Head Coach position up for grabs, the Raptors will need to make an important decision as to who will fill this vacancy during the 2023 NBA offseason. With several viable candidates both external and internal there’s sure to be plenty names in the running for the intriguing opportunity.

Check out the latest next Raptors head coach odds found below and let’s take a deep dive into the who’s favoured to claim the mantle for the 2023-24 season.

Adrian Griffin

Having served as an Assistant Coach on the Raptors for the past five seasons, Adrian Griffin is the current favourite to be promoted into the Head Coaching role. Familiar with the city, staff, roster, and identity of this current Raptors team, Griffin would be able to bring success quickly to this team.

Having served as an assistant coach for five franchises since 2008, this would be Griffin’s first opportunity to act as the leader on the bench for an NBA franchise. With plenty of knowledge to draw from both from a coaches perspective as well as from the point of view of a former-NBA player, Griffin will have no trouble relating to his players and finding the best ways to maximize their output.

At +250 there is still plenty of value in backing the favourite, Griffin in becoming the next Raptors Head Coach. Keep a close eye on Griffin this offseason as he is sure to be heavily considered for the job.

Kenny Atkinson

Currently serving as an Assistant Coach for the Golden State Warriors, Kenny Atkinson could soon see himself back as a Head Coach in the NBA. After leading the Brooklyn Nets as their Head Coach from 2016-2020, Atkinson proved he was more than ready to handle managing an NBA franchise especially amidst a rebuild.

While his departure from the Nets was sudden and unexpected, Atkinsons name has floated around Head Coaching vacancies regularly in recent years since then. Having spent time as an Assistant Coach on the Los Angeles Clippers and Warriors since then, it’s only a matter of time before Atkinson moves back into a lead role.

With so much budding potential with this Raptors roster as well as plenty of questions surrounding potential moves this offseason, Atkinson would be a great fit with this team regardless of the direction they decide to go in. At +380, Atkinson is a great bet from a value perspective but the final postseason result of the Warriors could play a factor in his decision to interview for the Raptors position.

Atkinson could be the best bet to claim this role heading into a 2023 offseason that could hold major culture changes within the Raptors organization.

Jerry Stackhouse

A standout in the basketball world both as a player as well as a coach, Jerry Stackhouse may be destined to sit in the Head Coaches chair for the Raptors in 2023. Familiar with the Raptors organization, Stackhouse got his start in coaching as an Assistant Coach with the Raps from 2015-2016 before being handed the reigns to their G League affiliate, the Raptors 905.

After leading the 905 to a G League Championship as well as claiming the league’s Coach of the Year honours in 2017, Stackhouse left the 905 to take an Assistant Coach role with the Memphis Grizzlies. After this, Stackhouse would serve as the Head Coach of the Vanderbilt Commodores in the NCAA starting in 2019 until present day.

Now with the franchise that gave him his start in the coaching world looking for a new leader, Stackhouse may make his return to where it all began.

Stackhouse was previously considered for this role in 2019 when the job was ultimately given to Nick Nurse. Perhaps now is the time where we see the former-NBA All-Star land the job, cashing in at +500 odds to become the next Raptors Head Coach
