March Madness Game Lines

The most basic forms of March Madness betting, game lines allow you to wager on the final outcome of a matchup in a number of ways. Below we have outlined the three main betting markets available on the 2023 NCAA Tournament as well as helpful examples on how to place each type of bet.

These game line wagers all work the same way when you want to be on other sports and leagues such as the NBA, NFL, and NHL.

Moneyline Betting

The most simple way to bet on March Madness in Canada, a moneyline wager is when you place a bet on who you think will win a matchup outright. No bells and whistles are attached to this no nonsense wager, just pick the winner to win your bet.

For example, if you want to bet on USC to defeat Michigan State in the Round of 64, you would take the USC moneyline.

Point Spread Betting

Similar to a moneyline, in this betting market you are wagering on the final outcome of the game but with an added handicap for both sides relative to how oddsmakers feel the game will play out. Favourites will be indicated by the “-” symbol next to the projected win value and underdogs will be dsiplayed with a “+” symbol.

Teams will be given even odds but each side will be given a point value they will need to “cover” in order to win your bet.

For example, if Marquette is a -10.5 point favourite against Vermont, the Golden Eagles would need to win by at least 11 points in order to cover the spread, where as the underdog Catamounts would need to either win the game outright, or lose within 10 points.

Point Total Betting

While this betting market isn’t impacted by who wins or loses a matchup, it is solely focused on the final outcome of the game. A point total wager allows bettors to bet Over or Under on the projected combined point total between both teams competing in a game.

For example, if the projected point total in the TCU VS Arizona State matchup is set at 140.5 points, both teams must produce a final combined score of 141 or more in order to hit the Over, if 140 or fewer points are scored than the game would finish as an Under.

March Madness Prop Bets

Now that we’ve established how to bet on game lines in the March Madness tournament, let’s dive into the more specified betting markets available on the 2023 NCAA Tournament.

Whether you want to bet on events to transpire within the game or for a star player to have an impressive outing, all of these wagers are included in the prop betting market.

Game Props

Placing a focus on the events set to transpire within a matchup, game props encompass nearly every aspect of a game. From three-pointers made to predicting the exact final score, there’s never a dull moment when placing a game prop bet.

Game props will generally be fairly “black and white” in the sense that there no wiggle room, your wager will either hit or miss. Whether you’re betting an event straight up or are placing an Over/Under wager, game props provide a plethora of ways to increase your winning potential while betting on March Madness.

Player Props

Just like game props, player prop bets allow bettors to get more in-depth with their wagers with a focus on the individuals competing within a game. Whether it’s points, rebounds, assists, or any other statistical category, player prop bets allow bettors to wager on a players performance to either fail to reach or exceed expectations set by oddsmakers.

For example, if you back Canadian star, Zach Edey to put on a clinic against Fairleigh Dickinson in the opening round of the 2023 NCAA Tournament, you can take the Over on his point total. If his line is set at 21.5 points scored, he would need to score 22 or more in order to win your Over bet, or less than 21 points for an Under.
