Best U Sports Football Bets of the Week

When the lights shine their brightest and the pressure is palpable, this is where the contenders separate themselves from the pretenders. With their seasons on the line and a chance to continue their historic runs, all four remaining teams have a legitimate chance at reaching the Vanier Cup.

It’s a do-or-die scenario where only one team from each side of the bracket can emerge victorious, punching their ticket to the 2022 Vanier Cup, and taking one step closer to U Sports glory. Find all the best bets on the Uteck & Mitchell Bowl matchups, place a bet on each game, and head into the Vanier Cup Final with a big win on your bet slip.

Uteck Bowl

Kicking things off with a battle between the winners of the CanWest and AUS conferences, the Saskatchewan Huskies will travel to the East Coast to face the St. Francis Xavier X-Men. In a showdown between conference powerhouses, look for the Saskatchewan Huskies to run away with the Uteck Bowl this Saturday afternoon.

Led by the U Sports leader in passing yards per game, quarterback Mason Nyhus, the Huskies are positioned to dictate the pace of the game, controlling the tempo from opening kickoff to the final whistle. Utilizing their dynamic air-raid offence, look for the X-Men to struggle to contain the passing attack as they are accustomed to a smash mouth style of football.

While the Huskies are set to move onto the Vanier Cup Final, don’t expect it to be a cakewalk.

The X-Men are one of the top teams in U Sports for a reason and won’t go down without a fight. One of the best rushing teams in the league, led by running back Malcolm Bussey, StFX is a tough team to play against. As they methodically wear down their opponents after going hat on hat each and every play, the X-Men prefer to earn their yards the hard way in the trenches.

Look for both teams to try and implement their strategy early on, with the Huskies prevailing by the end of the matchup. While oddsmakers expect this to be a one-sided affair, the X-Men are a great pick to cover a four touchdown spread in what will be a high-scoring matchup.

Our Pick: Saskatchewan Huskies ML/St. Francis Xavier X-Men (+27.5)/Over 44.5

Mitchell Bowl

In a heavyweight showdown between arguably the two best teams in U Sports, the Western Mustangs and Laval Rouge et Or will duke it out for the final spot in the Vanier Cup. These two teams have plenty of history shared between them over the past decade so look for no love to be lost between these top two programs in the country.

The Mustangs enter this matchup with an unblemished record, looking to remain perfect heading into the Vanier Cup. Laval has only lost once this season, and has shown a determination to prevent it from happening again. Unfortunately for these two teams only one of them can leave Western Alumni Stadium with the win and we believe the home team Mustangs will get the job done Saturday Afternoon.

While both teams have played exceptionally this past season, the Mustangs have looked borderline unstoppable all year long. Dominating every opponent that’s stepped across the field from them, the Mustangs talent level is leaps and bounds above the competition.

Laval will surely do their best to keep things close, but back the favoured Mustangs to pull ahead on the scoreboard in the Mitchell Bowl, never looking back and clinching their spot in the Vanier Cup Final. The Mustangs will move on to the Vanier Cup with a 11-0 record on the season, looking to go a perfect 12-for-12 and claiming the schools second straight Vanier Cup, leaving them one shy of the all-time record held by their opponent Rouge et Or.

Our Pick: Western Mustangs (-12)/Over 50.5
